Photography ABCs
I love this pretty and simple guide to camera settings from Milk and Crown. When I first started learning photography a friend recommended Bryan Peterson’s Understanding Exposure, which was a brilliant, simple, grounded guide. But I still didn’t get it. I had to learn about exposure a dozen different ways before it sunk in. It was fractions that helped me in the end, which was funny because I wouldn’t have considered them my strong suit in school. But someone explained that if you look at apertures like fractions, the fact that f/1.2 is “bigger” (i.e. lets in more light) than f/22 makes total sense, as 1/2 is bigger than 1/22. If you’re just starting out and this all sounds like gibberish, this exposure simulator could be helpful.
