Climbing the Sugar Loaf

Climbing the Sugarloaf

These are the things I prize
And hold of dearest worth:
Light of the sapphire skies,
Peace of the silent hills,
Shelter of forests, comfort of the grass,
Music of birds, murmur of rills,
Shadows of cloud that swiftly pass,
And, after showers,
The smell of flowers
And of the good brown earth, –
And, best of all, along the way, friendship and mirth.
Henry Van Dyke

Some iPhone snaps from a recent climb of the Sugar Loaf. Our good friend Richard patiently guided us up and back on slightly alternative routes, so that we could enjoy all the flora and fauna the area had to offer. The above poem really reminded me not just of our walk, but of how happy and content Richard is when out in the open air.
