Just a quick hola from San Francisco! I’ve been walking, snapping and eating pretty much non-stop for almost a week now, and loving it.
I’m typing this from the super comfy bed at Hotel Zeppelin, but the pic above was taken from right around the corner of our Bernal Heights Airbnb. I’ve been shooting in some pretty amazing places for an upcoming issue of CARA, so, for now, I’ll just share a couple of Insta snaps.
Reading: I’ve been enjoying two books while here: the first is See San Francisco, a sweet coffee table photo book by super blogger Victoria Smith, aka SF Girl by Bay. The second is Cool Gray City of Love: 49 Views of San Francisco by Gary Kamiya, a collection of 49 essays that tell the story of the city, traveling through time and space.
Eating: Delicious Mexican food, any chance I get. Sure, there’s some sushi, tasty seasonal fare (asparagus is everywhere right now) and a whole lot of sweet treats, but I’m still loving how easily available things like tamales (the ones pictured above are from the Primavera stand at Ferry Building market), chilaquiles, and aguachile are.
Exploring: As many new neighborhoods as I can squeeze in. I’ve been criss-crossing the city like crazy, going from the Mission (pictured above) to North Beach to Dogpatch to Hayes Valley and even Sausalito.
Visiting: The Museum of Craft and Design. Pic above is from the series Pretty Little Things by Jessica Putnam-Phillips, who was an intelligence specialist for the Air Force, and is part of the current exhibition, Art and Other Tactics: Contemporary Craft by Artist Veterans. And pic below is from our night tour of Alcatraz!
Getting: Tattooed! Ben and I headed to Idle Hands to get our very first tattoos. Can’t wait to share more pics (once the bandages are off!).
I’ll be posting a little bit more on Instagram between now and tomorrow, when we fly home.
